Prohibition!

In the 1920's a ban on alcohol was placed which was known as prohibiton. The 18th amendment was passed on January 16, 1919 which officialy began prohibition. During this time mobsters prospered by illegally importing alcohol into the U.S. and selling it. Speakeasies were also opened as a place for anyone to go and secretly enjoy a drink. This prohibition was placed because people felt that without alcohol on the streets, crime rates would go down and the world would become a better place. Little did they know the exact opposite would take place.
Prohibition was a complete failure because people were eager to get their alcohol by any means, even if it meant obtaining it illegally. Men such as Al Capone prospered during this time by creating a mob that sold alcohol illegally and basically ran the City of Chicago. During prohibition crime rates and death rates both skyrocketed. It wasn't until the 21st amendment was passed on Decemeber 5, 1933 that the 18th amendment or prohibition was repealed and drinking alcohol became legal once again.

  1. Good start guys! You need to cite your sources for the information you use and be careful to avoid pictures I have used. Your background looks good, but you need to work on a theme and extras for the next post. Good start! 75/75
